Chapter 3 - Human Interface Design and the Development Process / Extending the Interface

Create a New Interface Element Cautiously

As a general rule, be cautious about creating a new interface element because you may end up introducing unnecessary complexity to your product.
Before you create a new interface element, make sure that you can't use existing elements to achieve the desired result. Involve users during the design process of the new element, because they can help you tell whether
it's intuitive or not.
